Venture capital is flooding back into crypto startups with renewed intensity, though through a narrower pipeline. Investors committed $6 billion to digital asset projects in Q1 2025—more than double last year’s equivalent period—while deal volume contracted sharply. Only 405 crypto investments were recorded, a 40% drop from 670 in Q1 2024.

The capital surge reflects concentrated bets on infrastructure and financial services. Exchanges, asset managers, and Core blockchain developers absorbed nearly $3.6 billion combined, with Web3 initiatives trailing at $231 million. "The market is voting with its dollars for pragmatic applications over speculative plays," said PitchBook analyst Robert Le.

Circle’s anticipated IPO looms as a bellwether for the trend. While the shrinking deal count suggests heightened selectivity, the funding spike signals institutional conviction in crypto’s financial infrastructure evolution.
